Canadians Sent Threatening Messages After Canada’s Online Copyright Rule Update

Canada rolled out a new “Notice-and-Notice” copyright regime at the beginning of the year which obliges internet service providers to deliver notices of alleged copyright infringement to customers. Instead of a simple notice, however, many Canadians have received notices that they could be on the hook for $150,000 per infringement and asking for payment up front.
