Snappy’s ProTips, pt. III
Today’s ProTip from Snappy is going to be the one-two punch of accessing your website via a “temporary” URL and then applying that knowledge to accessing your webmail as well. What is a “temporary” URL, and why do we keep enclosing it in quotation marks? Let’s answer the last part first: it’s not actually temporary, in fact it’s very much permanent. We can elaborate on that by addressing what exactly is this thing to which we refer as a temporary URL. First things first, here is the associated KnowledgeBase article: https://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/lets-get-started/temporary-url A temporary URL is simply a means to access your website’s files without invoking the use of an actual domain name. There are multiple circumstances where this might be beneficial, one of which would be while your domain name is in propagation. As you can see in the KB article, the actual syntax of a temporary URL varies dependent upon your hosting platform. For our purposes, we’ll stick with cPanel for our lesson here today, but the same logic applies across all platforms. Continue reading

contact form wont publish
hi all, not sure what im doing wrong, ive added a contact form on my contact page, followed all the steps in the tuturial, checked everything, saved as php, encoding type as multipart/form data, processing boz checked use built in php form processor, saved published, and the form isnt showing online, really dont know what im doing wrong. www.sjskinner.co.uk any idea will really help, many thanks sam Continue reading

SEO Consequences of switching to PHP from HTML
I’m planning on using the single menu page implementation technique by using an html box for menu items on many of my site pages, requiring re-publishing the page as a PHP instead of HTML. Anyone know if there is an SEO consequence in republishing where only the suffix changes? Will google consider this a new page or does it ignore the suffix change and keep the indexing for the pages just the way they are now as html’s??? Continue reading
